Work surface material

Accord­ing to the type of sur­face, enam­eled and glass-ceram­ic plates are dis­tin­guished. The first are made in a wide range of col­ors, are durable and low cost. How­ev­er, the enam­el is eas­i­ly chipped and scratched, and is dif­fi­cult to clean.

Type of burners and their number

Mobile house­hold stoves have only one or two burn­ers. Sta­tion­ary mod­els can have from 2 to 6 burn­ers. The more of them, the larg­er the plate. You need to find a mid­dle ground between the size of the equip­ment and the num­ber of burn­ers. But first ask your­self, how often do you cook food? It makes no sense to buy a meter wide stove with 6 heat­ing ele­ments if you cook scram­bled eggs in the morn­ing.

Only one type of heat­ing ele­ment is avail­able for the enam­elled work sur­face. This is a heat­ing ele­ment placed in a cast iron hous­ing — “pan­cake”. They can be of three types:

  1. Clas­sic. They heat up slow­ly. Dif­fer in uni­form col­or­ing;
  2. fast heat­ing. They are dis­tin­guished by a red cir­cle in the cen­ter of the “pan­cake”;
  3. Auto­mat­ic. They are dis­tin­guished by a white cir­cle in the cen­ter of the “pan­cake”. Auto­mat­ic heat­ing ele­ments rec­og­nize the moment when water boils. And the stove inde­pen­dent­ly reduces pow­er in order to spend ener­gy only on main­tain­ing the desired tem­per­a­ture.

The main dis­ad­van­tage of pan­cake heat­ing ele­ments is slow heat­ing and the same slow cool­ing.. There­fore, when the pow­er is reduced, the dish will boil for a long time, it may burn. The main advan­tage is low cost.

An elec­tric ceram­ic hob hides a flex­i­ble heat­ing ele­ment under the work­top. It is twist­ed into a spi­ral and laid on an asbestos base. On a work­ing sur­face the mark­ing of heat­ed zones is applied. They are called burn­ers, which are of three types:

  1. Rapidor Hi-Light. They heat up due to the incan­des­cent spi­ral. They have a rel­a­tive­ly low price, but from the class of burn­ers of glass-ceram­ic stoves they heat up more slow­ly;
  2. halo­gen, or halo light. The coil is heat­ed by a halo­gen bulb. The heat­ing rate is high­er than that of rapid;
  3. Induc­tion. Heat­ing occurs instant­ly due to the work of the elec­tro­mag­net­ic field. The glass-ceram­ic sur­face remains cold, the elec­tro­mag­net­ic field affects only dish­es with food.

We must not for­get that if the diam­e­ter of the bot­tom of the cook­ware is small­er than the diam­e­ter of the burn­er, then the glass ceram­ic spoils the appear­ance. In the worst case, it stops work­ing. Stove man­u­fac­tur­ers solve the prob­lem with the burn­er exten­sion fea­ture. A small round burn­er can be con­vert­ed into a large oval if nec­es­sary.

Induc­tion cook­ers are often iso­lat­ed from elec­tric mod­els and con­sid­ered sep­a­rate­ly. Which plate to choose: elec­tric or induc­tion? Here you have to choose between unpre­ten­tious­ness in the choice of dish­es and safe­ty in oper­a­tion, low pow­er con­sump­tion.

For an induc­tion cook­er, spe­cial cook­ware with a mag­ne­tized bot­tom is need­ed. But instead of buy­ing a new one, you can buy fer­ro­mag­net­ic stick­ers for old pans and pots. But the induc­tion hob spends ener­gy only on heat­ing dish­es with food. At the same time, the glass-ceram­ic sur­face remains cold, which elim­i­nates the risk of burns. For an induc­tion hob, it does not mat­ter what diam­e­ter you use the cook­ware.

Oven and its functions

Ovens are pro­vid­ed only for sta­tion­ary mod­els of cook­ers. The min­i­mum vol­ume is 14 liters, the max­i­mum is 162. But ovens of 20–70 liters are in great demand.
