Rating of the best juicers for 2022

How to choose a juicer

Before choosing a juicer, you need to understand for what purposes it is bought. The device for preparing an invigorating drink from citrus fruits will differ from the model for harvesting tomato juice. Let’s analyze what types of juicers are, and what technical parameters in the description you need to pay attention to.

  • Kinds. There are 3 main types of juicers, which differ in design and extraction method.
  1. Citrus juicers are the simplest in terms of how they work. They have a cone to which half of the fruit is pressed. The cone begins to rotate, due to which the spin occurs. There are models where you do not need to hold the product yourself — the juicer’s pressure device will do it for you.
  2. Centrifugal models first grind fruits with a special grater, after which they separate them into juice and pulp in a rotating centrifuge. These devices are universal and suitable for different vegetables and fruits. However, they are noisy, and fibrous products and bones quickly clog the separator mesh. Another drawback is that the juice quickly oxidizes, and also has foam on the surface.
  3. Auger juicers are similar to a meat grinder: inside there is a rotating spiral, called an auger, that crushes the products. The auger rotates slowly and quietly, capable of squeezing juice from any product, even their greens or nuts. At the same time, it will be without foam and with a maximum content of nutrients. The auger can be horizontal or vertical, the second option is more common (in demand, as it takes up less space on the table). On a note! Sometimes you can find combined juicers on sale, for example, a centrifugal one with a separate nozzle for citrus fruits. There are also hand presses that use mechanical force.
  • Power. This parameter is important for centrifugal models. It will depend on this whether the device will cope with the processing of solid products. So, models of 500‑1000 W will be able to squeeze juice only from soft fruits and vegetables, and 1000–1500 W will cope with hard apples and carrots. The power of citrus juicers should be at least 40 watts, however, most models on the market meet this criterion. For screw juicers, the power indicator is not so important. The average value for them is 150–200 W, but this is quite enough for any products. Important! There are models designed for home and professional use. They will differ in continuous operation time and engine power.
  • Materials used. Most often, the body of the juicer is made of plastic. It is easy to clean and can be any color. However, light-colored plastic stains with fruit juice over time. More expensive models have a stainless steel case. It is stronger, but also heavier. In addition, fingerprints are very visible on such a surface. The separator of centrifugal models can be made of different materials, but metal or ceramics will be the best option. Ceramic parts are easy to clean, but more fragile.
  • Additional functions. Modern manufacturers equip devices with various options that increase ease of use. Let’s consider the most important of them.
  1. The pulse mode will help to cope with solid products. The appliance’s motor runs intermittently to avoid overheating.
  2. The automatic pulp ejection function eliminates the need for self-cleaning of the pulp container.
  3. The “drip-stop” system will prevent dripping from the juicer spout onto the table.
  4. In screw models, a reverse must be present. Rotating the auger in the opposite direction will help “free” the stuck piece of fruit.
  5. A foam separator is needed for centrifugal devices. It separates that very unpleasant foam, and the juice becomes clean.
  • Ergonomics. Pay attention to the container for collecting juice. It is better if it is outside the device: it is easier to replace in case of breakage, you can use any glass that is suitable in height. The volume of the container varies from 1 cup to 1.5 liters, you need to proceed from your needs. The size of the feed opening is important if a large number of products are processed at a time. There are auger models that can be filled with whole apples without cutting, which is very convenient when harvesting juice for the winter. Their neck size is more than 6.5 cm.

On a note! The best brands among juicer manufacturers are Bosch, Philips, Moulinex, Panasonic, Garlyn, Kitfort.
