Following a teaser at the I/O presentation today, Google officially announced the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Smartphones received an updated design, Tensor G2 processor and improved cameras.
The second generation of the Tensor processor provides more accurate voice recognition and more advanced machine learning capabilities. In practice, this should mean better photo and video processing, as well as faster CPU-intensive operations. Tensor G2 also received a new Titan M2 security chip.
Compared to the 6.4-inch Pixel 6, the new Pixel 7 is a bit smaller, with a 6.3-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. The Pixel 7 Pro features a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED screen with LTPO support and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Its peak brightness is 1500 nits.
The Pixel 7 has a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle module with a 114° field of view. Google says it has improved the Night Sight mode for more accurate color reproduction when shooting in low light conditions, and also introduced a new Cinematic Mode for shooting video with smooth background blur. To make it look even better, the new smartphone has improved stabilization and noise reduction.
The Pixel 7 Pro already has three cameras. The main module is the same, the ultra-wide-angle module is slightly wider (125.8 °), a third one has also appeared – a 48 megapixel telephoto lens. It provides 5x optical and 30x hybrid zoom. The selfie cameras are the same: 10.8MP with a 92.8° field of view.
One of the interesting new features is the Photo Unblur mode, which allows you to remove blur from the image in one tap. This works in Google Photos only on new Pixels and helps to improve old photos that you can no longer retake, but you want to keep. All processing takes place on the device.
The Pixel 7 received a 4,355 mAh battery, while the Pixel 7 Pro has a 5,000 mAh battery. Both support 30W fast wired charging as well as wireless charging – including reverse. The charger is not included.
After the release, smartphones will receive the Clear Calling function, as in Pixel Buds Pro. It cuts out unnecessary background noise during calls. Pixel users will also get a new free VPN as part of Google One.
Both smartphones will go on sale next week. Pixel will now be available in new regions (Denmark, Norway, Sweden and India). The starting prices of new devices are already known:
- Pixel 7 – from $599 (≈36,300 rubles)
- Pixel 7 Pro – from $ 899 (≈54,400 rubles)
The Pixel 7 will be available in snow, obsidian, and lemongrass, which are white, black, and light yellowish green, respectively. The Pixel 7 Pro retained the black and white colorways, with the addition of “hazelnut”, a muted dark green version.
