New 16-inch Macbook Pro from Apple

Apple’s Macbook Pro series of laptops has become quite familiar. The last major upgrade these computers received was the touchbar. But this does not mean at all that the company has nothing to offer its fans. So Apple has announced a new 16-inch MacBook Pro. The laptop immediately attracted attention, since the usual display diagonals were 13 and 15 inches. Let’s take a closer look at what the company is ready to offer us.

What’s new in MacBook 16?

Perhaps the most welcome news for MacBook lovers is the updated keyboard. The “butterfly” design did not take root, moreover, it created many problems for both the company itself and numerous users. It broke down easily, so Apple had to replace the entire module for free. Instead of this keyboard, the company has brought back the old “scissor” design, which makes it easier to clean the keyboard without causing as much trouble for the user. Therefore, new models do not fall under the keyboard replacement program.

The keyboard is quiet, much quieter than on models from the 15th year. However, it is quite flexible. Bright backlighting has also become better. Also, if one key breaks, it will be enough just to replace it.

The touchbar also remained in place, but became noticeably shorter. We also brought back the physical Escape key.

In general, the keyboard has undergone enough changes, since even the arrows have been repositioned, now they are easier to find tactilely.

Characteristics

In terms of performance, expectations are, as always, average. We do not expect improved gaming performance from the MacBook, these laptops are not for that. However, the company still endowed computers with decent power. The series runs on Intel Core i7 and Intel Core i9 processors, depending on the modification. And there are only two modifications.

The more affordable one received an i7 processor with a clock frequency of 2.6 GHz and overclocking to 4.5 with Turbo Boost. 16GB RAM and 4GB AMD Radeon 5300 Pro graphics card. For the internal memory of the Macbook, they completely switched to SSD and the new laptop has 512GB of memory. That is, there are no versions for 128GB and 256GB.

The more expensive model received 2.3GHz on an Intel Core i9 processor with overclocking to 4.8GHz. The laptop also received 16GB of RAM. The only difference in the video card is the model, it is also designed for 4GB of video memory, but this is AMD Radeon Pro 5500M. But the built-in memory is 2 times more than on the younger model.

All other characteristics of the new Macbook are completely identical. This is a 16-inch Retina display with a resolution of 3072×1920 with True Tone technology. The weight of the models is 1x9kg. The battery supports up to 11 hours of operation, according to the manufacturer. This means you’ll get roughly 5 hours of video playback, and you’ll only experience full battery life with light usage. We can say that in this regard, the performance of laptops has not changed.

Laptops are charged as before from a USB Type-C cable. In addition, the case has 4x Thunderbolt 3 ports and a headphone jack.

For audio on the laptop, a system of six speakers with Dolby Atmos is responsible.

You can change the configuration of the laptop, but this, as always, concerns only a few aspects: you can expand the RAM up to 64GB, the built-in memory up to 8TB, and the video card up to 8GB. With all the modifications, a 16-inch MacBook can make a very impressive machine in terms of power.

What has been improved?

The keyboard is not the only thing that has changed. Overheating laptops have been a fairly common user complaint. The company did not present anything specific in this respect in the announcement, but the testers of the first models claim that the difference in the heating of the device is really noticeable. So it’s safe to say that by some means, Apple still improved the system.

In size, the new MacBook is 0.7 millimeters thicker than its predecessor, and the entire system and internal design has been revised. Thus, the CPU takes up 35 percent more space, and coolers produce up to 28% more air.

The audio system, by the way, is also improved. The speakers now produce more bass frequencies and less distortion, including the reduction of vibrations propagating to the keyboard. Stereo dilution also impresses listeners, the sound is clear.

While there were no significant complaints about the audio capabilities of Apple laptops, we can say that the company has achieved absolute success in this area.

As for the microphones, there are only three of them, and in the announcement, Apple claims that the quality of their recording can compete with external microphones. The sound has indeed become better, but it cannot be said that it is close to professional.

The camera built into the laptop has not received major changes. It still has a resolution of 720p and its quality is rather mediocre.

Screen

The MacBook display is certainly an interesting upgrade. A similar diagonal cannot be found in any of the other MacBooks. Plus, Apple monitors have long proven themselves from the best side, so there are simply no complaints about them. Resolution 3072×1920, but without HDR support. This may upset some, but there is no reason to worry, because Apple’s technologies aimed at improving the image always cope with the task.

And another interesting point is that the 16-inch display fits perfectly into the same size case as the 15-inch one. This means that the bezels around the screen have become smaller.

In general, we can say that Apple did exactly what the fans asked for – provided a MacBook Pro with a good (familiar) keyboard that heats up less than its predecessors.
