How to hide contacts on your phone from unwanted apps

[ad_1]

Some applications on your smartphone refuse to work until you grant them access to your contact list. As a rule, developers explain such a requirement by some objective reason. But you often cannot check their honesty. Data about your contact list can be sold to third parties, or simply stolen.

Fortunately, there is a tool that allows you to cheat the system. You can use the application of interest without giving it real access to your contact list. Instead, the application will receive a dummy list containing nothing of value.

It’s about the app. OpenContacts. It creates an isolated list of contacts, hidden from the attention of other applications. Real contacts are stored elsewhere while apps access the dummy.

The tool is good because it protects contacts from both applications that ask permission for access, and from potential spyware that acts without the user’s knowledge.

The OpenContacts app itself is open source, so it’s safe to use. To install the application, you need to download and install the APK file on your phone using the link above.
