Design — plastic under the metal, similar to a large smartphone

The complete set of HARPER PB-20000 is not generous. A transparent blister with a cardboard insert contains a case, a USB-micro-USB cable, as well as instructions in European and a warranty. The wire is round, about 20 cm long — the losses should be small.

The proportions of the case are made in the spirit of the time — 2:1 (162 × 81 mm), which further enhances the similarity of the device with a huge smartphone, only the corpulence of 22 mm puzzles.

According to the manufacturer, lithium-polymer cells are used in the device, their sizes are not limited to cups, the shape can be arbitrary.

In the hand, the battery feels like a healthy blank, its weight is twice the average phone — 413 g.

The case looks stylish, at first glance it is perceived as metal, but all the panels are plastic, not excluding the shiny piping. The top cover is decorated with a grid of dotted recesses, the back is matte.

At the top of the device is a bluish LED display that shows the percentage of charge, current and direction of its flow (in / out). The numbers are legible in any light. A small silver button for checking the charge level is placed on the right side. The output connectors are located on the upper end of the case, the input one did not fit there, it was moved to the left edge. A flashlight is not provided.

Interaction with external devices is implemented through four interfaces. Through the micro-USB input socket, the current enters the battery, its limit value is 2A. QC fast charging is not implemented.

I am very pleased that they provided three output sockets — this is better than the usual two. The ports are not equivalent, the first is limited by a current of 1A, the other two are limited by a current of 2.1A.

The battery has built-in protection against short circuit, overheating and overvoltage.

You can charge your tablet, phone and GoPro camera at the same time, the applied Smart IC chip will give each device as much power as it can digest. True, there are no miracles in the budget segment, there is a limitation — the total current for all ports should not exceed 2.4A. Otherwise, the controller will reduce the power supply and the charging time will increase.

Capacity — good performance even with losses

The declared capacity of the HARPER PB-20000 external battery is 20,000 mAh, lithium-polymer cells are used, the number of charge / discharge cycles of which reaches 500, when charged once a week, this is enough for almost 10 years.

The actual value of the given charge will be lower, due to losses in the conversion circuits. Measurements by YuESBi-doctor give an output capacity of about 15,000 mAh, which is not bad for an inexpensive device (losses are less than 30%).

There is no fast charging, so filling the battery itself with the maximum allowed current takes about 12 hours. The time for which smartphones and tablets are saturated will also be standard for them — it depends on the internal batteries.

The available capacity is very decent, it allows you to charge Alcatel 1 (2000 mAh) for at least a whole week (up to 7 times), ZTE Blade A530 (2600 mAh) — five times, Xiaomi Mi Max 3 (5500 mAh) — twice.

conclusions

The HARPER PB-20000 external battery attracts with its appearance, reminiscent of a large smartphone. A large gadget looks solid and will not be an alien element even in an A-class office.

It is convenient that the charge is displayed not with abstract dots, but with normal numbers — it is always clear how much is left, is it time to connect to the outlet.

We also write down three output ports as pluses — with a decent capacity of 15 A * h, the simultaneous distribution of a charge is only welcome. The existing restrictions in the form of slow charging or current limit on the ports are not critical, most users will not notice them.

Recommended for office workers, students and travelers — anyone who needs long autonomy.
