How to Quickly Test Your Camera on a Windows 10 Laptop

After Microsoft introduced a new operating system, many users had time to appreciate the product. But until now, some people have problems with one device — the camera. In general, the process of turning on and configuring the camera on a laptop with an installed version of Windows 10 is no different from the same Windows 7/8. But if we are talking about device manufacturers, everything here is very different (sometimes in different models of the same computer brand, everything can be arranged radically differently).

In order not to «run in the dark», as they say, it is enough to use the simplest way to turn on the video device — a special button. In a number of models of products from famous manufacturers such as Asus, Samsung, Lenovo, Acer, the design features of the products provide for turning on a video device using a button specially designed for this.

In most cases, it is located near the laptop’s power button. If this product is from the Lenovo brand, then the power button for the video device can generally be located near the usb ports.

If the button was not found, there is another option — use the keyboard. In most models of modern laptops, this method of controlling a video device is quite accessible. You will have to manually find the desired functional keyboard shortcut. Look carefully at the keys and find the one with the image of the video device on it. By the way, on many models, the Fn + V key combination is responsible for turning the camera on / off. For example, in portable models of Lenovo products, the Fn + F5 / Esc key combinations perform this function.

Checking the operation of the camera

If a simple method to check the status of the video device is by using the system application. To get into it, you need to go to Start — All applications and scroll through their list to the letter K. Click on the «Camera» application. If the device is active, then an image will immediately appear on the screen of your laptop.

If the option does not work, do not despair. Your laptop may simply have privacy settings disabled, preventing the app from accessing the video device. So, you can’t open it, which means you need to check it as follows: go to Start, select Settings, then System. In the window that opens, on the left in the list of system parameters, select the last item — «About the system». On the right side of the card (bottom), find the section with auxiliary parameters — «Device Manager».

In the window that opens, we find the tab «Image Processing Devices». Click on this item — the name will appear. Right-click on its name and select the «Enable» option. You can also update device drivers here.
