How to turn any gadget into a second monitor

Using mul­ti­ple mon­i­tors at work seems like overkill until you try it your­self. This is incred­i­bly con­ve­nient, espe­cial­ly if your main dis­play is not large. Using mul­ti­ple mon­i­tors is the best solu­tion, but, first­ly, the sec­ond mon­i­tor is not always at hand. Sec­ond­ly, not all video cards pro­vide the pos­si­bil­i­ty of cable con­nec­tion of two mon­i­tors. For­tu­nate­ly, any gad­get with a work­ing Wi-Fi mod­ule can be eas­i­ly turned into a sec­ond mon­i­tor. At the same time, it does not need to be phys­i­cal­ly con­nect­ed to the video card with a cable.

Creating a Second Display

Deskreen pro­gram allows you to turn your smart­phone or tablet into a sec­ond screen. To do this, it is enough that the gad­get is on the same net­work as the com­put­er. The method of con­nect­ing to the Inter­net does not mat­ter. It can be a com­bi­na­tion of a lap­top and a smart­phone con­nect­ed to the same Wi-Fi net­work. Or, for exam­ple, a sys­tem unit con­nect­ed to the router with a cable and a tablet con­nect­ed to the same router via a wire­less net­work.

First you need to down­load from the offi­cial web­site and install the Deskreen client on your com­put­er. After launch­ing the client, scan the QR code on the screen using the cam­era of your smart­phone or tablet.

The client will offer to choose what to dis­play on the gad­get’s screen — the entire screen or a win­dow of a spe­cif­ic appli­ca­tion. Note that only win­dows that are not cur­rent­ly min­i­mized are shown in the list. After con­firm­ing the con­nec­tion, we get a sec­ond dis­play.

An impor­tant point: Deskreen does not cre­ate an addi­tion­al desk­top, as is the case with full-fledged work with two mon­i­tors. The pro­gram only trans­lates the image of the screen or the select­ed win­dow to the sec­ond phys­i­cal screen. But it’s still pret­ty use­ful stuff. For exam­ple, if you are trans­lat­ing text, you can dis­play a win­dow with the source text on the sec­ondary dis­play, and max­i­mize the win­dow of your work­ing text edi­tor on the main dis­play.

Deskreen is free and avail­able on Win­dows, MacOS, Lin­ux, and more. It allows you to con­nect mul­ti­ple devices at the same time, can improve the qual­i­ty of the pic­ture. All in all, it’s a use­ful tool that can come in handy for any­one who works on a com­put­er.
