Is it possible to wash white with color: what to do if things shed after washing

Sorting things by color is one of the basic rules for washing clothes. Items of bright colors (red, orange, pink) are washed together, as are green, blue items. White and light-colored garments must be washed separately. If a certain thing is strongly knocked out from the general color range of products, then it is better to wash it separately. If these rules are not followed, there is a risk of irreparably spoiling the thing.

Why you can’t wash white clothes with colored clothes

White, colored and black things cannot be washed with each other, because when water gets in, the products begin to shed heavily. Things exchange dyes, lose their original color, which spoils their appearance.

Especially white things with colored ones cannot be washed in such conditions:

  1. You have bought new clothes and have never washed them. In this case, the fixation of the pigment has not yet occurred. There is a risk that the pigment will wash into the drum and leave stains on light-colored items.
  2. It is necessary to wash things at elevated water temperatures — from 30 ° C.
  3. Soak heavily soiled items. The longer white items lie in water together with colored ones, the greater the risk of unwanted staining.
  4. When washing, bleach is used. In this case, there will be an accelerated washing out of the pigment, which will switch to light things.
  5. Clothing has an intense color cast or is too dark. The stronger the intensity of the color, the more likely it is that light and white products will absorb third-party pigment.

In this way, before washing, things should always be sorted into 3 parts:

  1. white and light products;
  2. dark, black garments;
  3. products of bright, saturated colors.

At the same time, the latter may also need to be sorted — for example, by separating red and orange things from blue, lilac. Also, black goes well with dark gray, blue, and blue with green. If you wash dark things together with light ones, then the first ones risk changing their color, brightening up. And if you wash black things with colored ones, then the products of both colors can change their shade.

Additionally, heavily soiled items should be separated.

When is it possible to wash colored and light colors together?

Sometimes it is acceptable to wash light and colored things together. The probability of their mutual staining does not disappear completely, but is significantly reduced.

Would need:

  1. Set the washing mode with a water temperature not higher than 30 ° C.
  2. Select minimum spin.
  3. Before placing clothes in the drum of the machine, turn them inside out.
  4. Soak colored laundry in vinegar solution for 1 hour. To prepare the solution, add 1 tbsp. l. 9% acetic acid per 1 liter of water.
  5. Add a detergent designed for colored laundry to the compartment of the machine. On the packages of such products there is an inscription Color.

Additionally, we recommend purchasing pigment-absorbing napkins. They are a white, odorless fabric up to 20 cm long. Thanks to them, things retain their original shade longer. When using such napkins, it is allowed to wash white with color. It is necessary to place 2 napkins in the drum when the load is good and 1 napkin when the machine is half loaded. In this case, first of all, a napkin is placed inside, and then the laundry is laid.

If the white napkin remains white after washing, this means that the washed items have a stable pigment — therefore, they can be washed in the future without prior sorting. A white napkin that has not faded after washing can be reused. The advantage of such napkins is that with them it is enough to divide the laundry into only two categories — white and black, which saves washing time.

What to do if things shed after washing

Is it possible to wash white with color

If, despite all the precautions taken, you are faced with a shedding of light and white things, use the following methods to restore their original shade.

It is better to remove stains from third-party pigments immediately after you have discovered them. The sooner you start removing the stain, the easier it will be. If the clothes are already dry, then the paint is firmly fixed on the fabric, which complicates the process of its removal.

Hydrogen peroxide

Prepare a special solution: add 20 g of peroxide to 5 liters of water. Clothes that have changed their shade can be placed in the solution for 30 minutes.

    ammonium chloride

To prepare this solution, add 1 tbsp to 5 liters of water. l. alcohol. The item is soaked in the solution for 1 hour.

    Laundry soap

    Procedure:

    1. Grate the bar of soap.
    2. Fill the container with hot water, then dissolve the grated soap in it.
    3. Place the stained item in the solution for 2 hours.

After that, the light thing should acquire its original shade, getting rid of third-party pigment.

    Lemon juice

Freshly squeezed lemon juice is suitable in cases where not the whole thing is stained, but only some of its parts. You will need to apply lemon juice to specific stains and leave the clothes for 2-3 hours, and then wash in the usual way.

      Toothpaste

As in the previous case, toothpaste will help get rid of individual third-party stains — if the whole thing has shed, other methods will be required. It is necessary to apply toothpaste on stains, leave it for a couple of hours, and then wash the thing.

      Soda

      To prepare a solution:

      1. Dilute 5 tsp in 5 liters of water. soda.
      2. Bring the solution to a boil and boil the faded product in it.
      1. Dishwashing gel

Pour water into the container, add 1 cap of gel and place faded clothes in the solution for 15 minutes. After that, wash it in the usual way.

      Bleachers

The tool will bleach white and light things as quickly as possible. You can use an oxygen bleach like Chirton Oxygen.

Suitable washing mode for different laundry

So that colored, light and black clothes do not change their original shade, adhere to the following rules:

      1. Black items are washed with liquid powders at temperatures up to 40 ° C. We do not recommend using a dry product, because it is difficult to dissolve in water and is poorly washed out, leaving light stripes and spots on dark fabrics. In order to return the clothes to their black saturated color, add 2 tsp to the drum. ground pepper. You can also soak a black product in a coffee solution — 15 g of coffee per 1 liter of boiling water. If you have to wash black and white, then you need to set the lowest temperature and the fastest washing mode. There should be as few clothes in the drum as possible, and after washing it should be taken out immediately.
      2. Black and dark blue items can be washed together. However, it is better not to combine woolen, linen, cotton things of different colors, since products made from such materials are quickly dyed in each other’s colors.
      3. White things are washed with both dry and liquid powders with bleaches. The optimum temperature is 30-60 °C. Laundry soap is used to eliminate dirt: it is enough to wipe the stain, rinse and place the thing in the machine. And to preserve the shade, you can soak a white thing in a soda solution for 40 minutes, adding 1 tbsp to 1 liter of water. l. soda. It is permissible to add ammonia instead of soda, dissolving 2 tbsp. l. funds in 1 liter of water and soaking a white thing in it for 20 minutes.

Follow these rules, and then you will retain the original shade of your things for a long time.
