St. George ribbon on May 9 — Why? For what? And why?

The trend for this accessory appeared relatively recently, in 2005. Then the media were invited to distribute symbolic ribbons in honor of the celebration of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. Since then, the action has become a tradition. But the St. George Ribbon itself appeared in the days of the Russian Empire. Simultaneously with the Order of St. George, which was the highest military award.

The colors on the modern ribbon correspond to the colors used on the order block for the medal «For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.»
