Geyser cof­fee mak­ers use a rather unusu­al method of prepa­ra­tion. Struc­tural­ly, these devices con­sist of two com­part­ments — upper and low­er — inter­con­nect­ed by a tube.

Water is poured into the low­er com­part­ment. As the tem­per­a­ture ris­es, the pres­sure in it increas­es. As a result, boil­ing water is sent through the tube to the upper com­part­ment, where the ground cof­fee is locat­ed. Actu­al­ly, because of the “hot water geyser” these mod­els got their name.

The design may be changed by the man­u­fac­tur­er. For exam­ple, cof­fee pow­der is not placed in the upper com­part­ment, but in a spe­cial cap­sule locat­ed in the tube. Then a ready-made drink with­out thick is col­lect­ed “above”, less strong, but still very rich and fra­grant.

Geyser cof­fee mak­ers are of two types — gas and elec­tric. The first option is the cheap­est. Such “cof­fee machines” are heat­ed on a con­ven­tion­al stove until boil­ing and the end of cook­ing. Elec­tric heaters already have a built-in heat­ing ele­ment, so you don’t need to put them on the stove.

Depend­ing on where the cof­fee pow­der is placed — in the fil­ter cap­sule or direct­ly in the upper com­part­ment — the drink can be rich and aro­mat­ic or strong to bit­ter­ness, respec­tive­ly. This is very impor­tant to con­sid­er when choos­ing a device.

The prin­ci­ple of oper­a­tion of the device is quite sim­ple. It con­sists of two com­part­ments. Water is poured into the first, the fil­ter is placed in the sec­ond, into which cof­fee is poured. Then, when turned on, water begins to flow into the elec­tric heater, from where it lit­er­al­ly falls into the fil­ter drop by drop. Boil­ing water pass­es through a lay­er of ground cof­fee, sat­u­rat­ed with taste and aro­ma. And in the end, it ends up in a cup or a teapot, depend­ing on the mod­el.

Thanks to this tech­nol­o­gy of mak­ing cof­fee, it turns out very fra­grant, but not too strong. That is, it is not a clas­sic espres­so.

It is worth not­ing that cof­fee in drip cof­fee mak­ers is poured into spe­cial fil­ters. In any case, they are con­sum­ables, but they can be dis­pos­able and reusable.

Paper fil­ters are dis­pos­able. They get wet after the first use. Syn­thet­ic (nylon) — reusable. On aver­age, they are designed for 60 uses. And the “gold” — syn­thet­ic with met­al rein­force­ment — will “sur­vive” up to 250 brews.

The cheap­est in terms of “use price” — paper. For a pack­age of 100 fil­ters, you will have to pay about 250 rubles. Syn­thet­ic costs the same, but is designed for few­er brews.

On the oth­er hand, paper fil­ters can slight­ly affect the taste of the cof­fee. Togeth­er with the fin­ished drink, cel­lu­lose fibers enter the cof­fee pot. In addi­tion, when wet, the paper acquires a rather unpleas­ant after­taste that can get into cof­fee.
