How to dry a down jacket

Down has excellent thermal insulation properties and warms well in winter. Such a filler is dense and light. However, in order for its qualities to remain unchanged, it is important to properly dry the down jacket after washing.

Procedure:

1. Close the zipper, close the pockets and turn the down jacket inside out;
2. Place the product in the machine;
3. Select the minimum temperature and the number of revolutions (from 600 to 800 per minute);

You may need to run the machine 2-3 times in a row to prevent damage to the filler and material of the down jacket.

Horizontal position

The best option — in a horizontal position, especially if the down jacket is stitched with large squares or one-piece. This position prevents the fluff from churning, and after drying it will be easier to fluff. If the product was not wrung out in the machine, then water will begin to flow out of it. However, with a horizontal down jacket, it will be laid evenly in the cells.

We recommend putting the down jacket on the dryer and placing it on a balcony, loggia or other well-ventilated area. Shake the down jacket from time to time and turn it inside out to ensure even drying and no wrinkling in the filling.

Do not fluff the filler until it is completely dry. Do not put towels under the down jacket — otherwise it will quickly become damp.

Also, you can not dry the jacket on heating devices (for example, on a radiator). This is not only unsafe, but also risks leading to irreparable damage to the product.

Vertical position

In this position, down jackets should dry after drying in the machine. The vertical position ensures even drying of the down jacket, since it does not need to be turned over.

In order to speed up the drying of the down jacket, direct a working heater at it. However, it is not necessary to place the device too hard on the clothes, as the hot jet can ruin the jacket. In addition, natural down does not tolerate high temperatures well and breaks, and this causes the jacket to stop heating in the cold season. If small particles break through the cover, then the appearance of the product will be hopelessly damaged.

Fluff the fluff from time to time to prevent clumps from forming.

On average, down jackets dry out within 2 days. To speed up drying, you can hang the product in the fresh air, making sure that it is not exposed to sunlight.

How to prevent lumps

After washing and drying, lumps often appear on down jackets. To prevent this situation, put thick white tennis balls in the washing machine — 4-5 pcs. Do not use balls of bright, saturated colors, as a down jacket with them can shed. If you dry the down jacket also in the machine, then in this case, put tennis balls. Bouncing off the walls of the drum, they break down lumps, but at the same time the drum of the equipment remains intact due to their soft material.

If small lumps form in the down jacket after drying, rub them with your hands. You can also use a hair dryer with a stream of cold air or a vacuum cleaner. So, when using a hair dryer, it is enough to keep the device at a distance of 20 cm from the jacket. If you use a vacuum cleaner, then at the same time try to break up the lump, distributing it over the chamber with an air stream.

Finally, you can eliminate lumps with a carpet slapper. Turn the jacket inside out, lay it on a flat horizontal surface and walk all over the product.
